Under the new coaching structure every coach, regardless of their background is responsible for completing the following requirements in order to have an “active” standing with USA Rugby. If you want guaranteed liability coverage than your team needs to be considered “in compliance”. Having a registered and “active” coach is one of the 3 requirements for a team to be considered “in compliance” and also a requirement to be a club in good standing with the GU. A coach is considered “active” for the membership cycle when they complete the following (for detailed instructions on how to complete each step just click on the text below):
- Register as a coach with USA Rugby
- Pass a biennial background screening – a felony DUI will prevent you from passing
- Complete the Player Protection Package
- Complete a certification course – Level 200 is required for contact teams
- Annually maintain “active” status.
Each year you are required to keep your certification current with 10 Professional Development Units. Many of these can be completed online, but there will be in-person options in Florida to help meet the requirement. These courses will be paired with state-run tournaments and meetings.
